The most beautiful hotels for a heavenly stay in Mauritius

An island jewel in the Indian Ocean, Mauritius offers idyllic beaches, mountains to climb and an exotic culture. By choosing one of these five dream hotels, you can be sure that your sunny getaway will remain etched in your memory forever.

Constance Prince Maurice

This is one of the most beautiful hotels in Mauritius. Located in the north-east of the region, this sanctuary dazzles from the moment you arrive with its sublime hall protected by a thatched roof overlooking an infinity pool that seems to want to embrace the ocean. A second pool is surrounded by palm trees and invites you to bask in the sun. Here, the programme is perfect.

Your stay begins with a round of golf, when the weather is still suitable for the sport. This five-star establishment boasts an 18-hole course that will meet the expectations of the most demanding athletes. You can also hit the ball on the resort’s tennis courts, not forgetting the many activities on offer, including water-skiing and kayaking. Lunchtime Head to the Archipelago or the Asian, both overlooking the sea. On one side, refined dishes with a Mauritian accent. On the other, Asian flavours and a sushi bar. The wine cellar, with 25,000 bottles, is one of the most renowned on the island.

The afternoon is devoted to relaxation. Head to the spa, with its seven cabins, sauna, steam bath and ice bath. A must? A treatment with Sisley products right on the beach, just a few steps from the ocean. At dinnertime, after a cocktail in the floating Laguna bar, we head for Le Barachois, nestling on a pontoon with an uninterrupted view of the mangroves. A little corner of paradise like few others. And all that’s left to do is choose between the self-contained bungalows, some of which are built on stilts, or the villas nestling in the vegetation with private pools. Either way, you’re in for an unforgettable night.

Telfair Heritage

This hotel in the very south of the island combines Mauritian architecture with modern luxury and eco-responsible tourism, widely acclaimed by guests. Set in 2,500 hectares of lush forest, the Telfair Heritage boasts a gigantic swimming pool surrounded by immaculate sand, where you can be sure of a leisurely swim. The colonial design of the premises is impressive and perfectly complemented by the very elegant furnishings. The rooms in the twenty or so villas feature white wooden architecture inspired by the sugar plantations, four-poster beds, patios overlooking the water and noble fabrics in natural shades.

When it comes to dining, the Telfair Heritage offers a choice of local specialities, international flavours and oriental dishes. For lunch, Le Palmier is a must, thanks to its location on the beach. And don’t forget the spa, with its secluded outdoor suites and invigorating vitality pool. The hotel’s added bonus? Two highly acclaimed golf courses with breathtaking sea views.

20 Degrees South

The only Relais & Châteaux hotel on the island, 20 Degrés Sud is located on the northern tip of Mauritius, in a former coconut grove. This boutique hotel is for adults only, promising travellers peace, privacy and romance. The 36 rooms, including six suites and a villa, open onto the garden or the lagoon. This little gem of a hotel boasts a swimming pool lined with outdoor sunbeds, a real invitation for two to relax.

Three restaurants and two bars complete the offer: the M/S Lady Lisbeth and its Mauritian cuisine in a hushed atmosphere, L’Explorateur, for fine fish dishes accompanied by local produce, and La Voile, with a menu featuring cocktails, snacks and international dishes. The spa, meanwhile, is more traditional, with its treatment rooms, swimming pool and hammam. An ideal place for tourists looking for a confidential, child-free hotel, far from the island’s big resorts.

Veranda Grand Baie
