{"id":15373,"date":"2023-06-06T15:30:16","date_gmt":"2023-06-06T13:30:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/magazine.luxus-plus.com\/?p=15373"},"modified":"2023-06-06T16:13:21","modified_gmt":"2023-06-06T14:13:21","slug":"apple-launches-its-mixed-reality-mask","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/magazine.luxus-plus.com\/en\/apple-launches-its-mixed-reality-mask\/","title":{"rendered":"Apple launches its mixed reality mask"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"initial-letter\"><p>With the launch of the &#8220;Vision Pro&#8221;, its first &#8220;mixed&#8221; (virtual and augmented) reality mask, Apple has finally entered this niche, which has until now been occupied almost monopolistically by Meta (ex Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp&#8230;).<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It was eagerly awaited. <strong>The Vision Pro<\/strong> was unveiled yesterday, Monday, at Apple&#8217;s annual developer conference.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe title=\"Introducing Apple Vision Pro\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TX9qSaGXFyg\" width=\"834\" height=\"469\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, this <em>&#8220;revolutionary new product&#8221;<\/em>, which will <em>&#8220;blend digital content with the real world, will enable us to create new experiences like we&#8217;ve never seen before&#8221;.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The aim is not to disappoint industry observers and Apple fans with this rival to <strong>Quest, the virtual reality headset already launched by Meta in mid-2019.<\/strong> And this at a time when Apple is accustomed to offering highly disruptive innovations to the general public, even if it means offering them at a very high price.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For the Vision Pro, the strategy seems a little different.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Wearable computer<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Rather cumbersome, <strong><em>&#8220;this new type of computer that enhances reality by seamlessly blending the real and the digital&#8221;<\/em>, as Tim Cook put it, is initially aimed at <em>&#8220;enthusiasts and engineers&#8221;<\/em>, so that they can <em>&#8220;start building an ecosystem of dedicated applications&#8221;<\/em>. At the end of<strong> 2021, Facebook renamed itself Meta<\/strong>, short for metaverse, which Mark Zuckerberg saw as the next promised land after the Internet and the smartphone.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meta<\/strong>, which has already released several versions of <strong>virtual reality headsets under the Quest brand since May 2019, will account for more than 80% of the market by the end of 2022<\/strong>, according to Counterpoint.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>High prices<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And he&#8217;s not resting on his laurels. <strong>On Thursday, Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg<\/strong> launched <strong>his latest version, the Quest 3<\/strong>, the <em>&#8220;first consumer headset with high-resolution color mixed reality&#8221;.<\/em> Starting this autumn, it will be available in the USA for as little <strong>as $500<\/strong>. In other words, <strong>a much more affordable offer than Apple&#8217;s. The Pro Vision<\/strong>, which isn&#8217;t due until <strong>early 2024<\/strong>, is expected to cost $3,500 (<strong>\u20ac3,274!<\/strong>), and probably more than<strong> \u20ac4,000 on the Old Continent<\/strong>&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>However, according to some market observers, the high price of the Pro Vision is not necessarily prohibitive. In spite of everything, its revolutionary nature could make it a hit, first and foremost in the<strong> training sector.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Virtual reality headsets were all the rage during the pandemic and periods of confinement, but have been slow to catch on with the general public.
