Since then, the format devised by the \u201cemperor of the LP\u201d has taken off, with clubbing evenings, picnics, and dinners for individuals and companies alike.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Every year, <b>between mid-June and the end of August<\/b>, a strange festive ritual awakens: the <b>Soir\u00e9es Blanches<\/b>. From Reims to Chantilly, via Paris, Nice, and Monaco, many cities hold their <b>all-white nighttime events<\/b>. But while <b>nightclubs, gardens, castles, and private beaches<\/b> all embrace this festive spirit, there is one place where it has a very special flavor.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Its name? Saint Tropez. <b>Brigitte Bardot<\/b> not only revealed this<strong> small fishing port in the Var region, beloved by Impressionist painters<\/strong> such as Paul Signac, Henri Matisse, and Robert Delaunay, to the general public. She also caught the eye of a famous music producer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A <strong>descendant of Auvergnats who moved to Paris<\/strong>, <strong>Eddie Barclay<\/strong>, the son of a caf\u00e9 waiter, ended his career on a high note, having enjoyed <strong>resounding success thanks to the importation from the United States of a revolutionary technology: the microgroove record.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>An<strong> incorrigible partygoer\u2014eight marriages in 84 years\u2014Eddie Barclay<\/strong>, <strong>founder of the Barclay music label<\/strong>, was <strong>forced to slow down after being diagnosed with throat cancer<\/strong> and wanted to share his flamboyant success with his many friends. He decided to organize <b>a new kind of party<\/b>\u2014perfectly Instagrammable before the term even existed\u2014in his sumptuous villa overlooking the Saint Tropez golf course, built in the early 1980s: the<b> concept of the Soir\u00e9es Blanches<\/b> was born.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>500 guests per year<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When the Nuits Blanches arrived, <strong>Eddie Barclay had just sold his eponymous record company to Polygram.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_173898\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-173898\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-173898\" title=\"Eddie Barclay Party Paris\" src=\"https:\/\/luxus-plus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Eddie_Barclay_Party_Paris-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Eddie Barclay Party Paris\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-173898\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Eddie Barclay in good company with actresses Fran\u00e7oise Dorl\u00e9ac and Catherine Deneuve at a party in Paris in May 1967 \u00a9 Giancarlo Botti<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>One of the most prolific talent scouts in French pop music from the 1950s to the 1970s, he set out to find a refuge on the Saint Tropez peninsula.<\/strong> In the 1980s, he had <strong>his residence built on a plot of land he had spotted twenty years earlier, at the end of Pampelonne beach, close to Saint-Tropez<\/strong>. The producer was <strong>no stranger to this small village<\/strong> in the Var region, having first rented a villa on the peninsula in the 1950s, first at La Capilla and then at La Forge dans les Parcs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <b>Villa du Cap (Camarat)<\/b>, which took <b>twenty-five years to complete<\/b>, was immediately envisioned as a residence <b>\u201cdesigned to entertain, like a show or a musical,\u201d<\/b> as his eighth and last wife, Caroline Barclay, likes to recall.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_173893\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-173893\" style=\"width: 768px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-173893\" title=\"Villa_Cap_Camarat_Eddie_Barclay\" src=\"https:\/\/luxus-plus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Villa_Cap_Camarat_Eddie_Barclay.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"512\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-173893\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Villa du Cap Camarat, former residence of music producer Eddie Barclay in Ramatuelle, near Saint-Tropez<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Built on a single level, the residence was inspired by Proven\u00e7al farmhouses. In addition to <strong>six bedrooms<\/strong>, it featured <strong>a helipad<\/strong> and around <strong>a hundred speakers<\/strong> scattered throughout the property. The villa soon became the <strong>setting for lavish parties orchestrated by Eddie Barclay<\/strong>, who was more flamboyant than ever.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The<b> first \u201cwhite party\u201d<\/b> was<b> inaugurated on August 15, 1982<\/b>, a nod to the signature style of the master of the house. <b>The guests&#8217; dress code, the decor, the table settings&#8230; everything lent itself to this immaculate concept for one evening.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The party animal and incorrigible reveler invited <b>nearly 500 guests<\/b> every August 15.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-33945\" src=\"https:\/\/magazine.luxus-plus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Saint_Tropez_Sens_Fete-1024x535.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"535\" srcset=\"https:\/\/magazine.luxus-plus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Saint_Tropez_Sens_Fete-1024x535.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/magazine.luxus-plus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Saint_Tropez_Sens_Fete-300x157.jpg 300w, https:\/\/magazine.luxus-plus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Saint_Tropez_Sens_Fete-768x401.jpg 768w, https:\/\/magazine.luxus-plus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Saint_Tropez_Sens_Fete-60x31.jpg 60w, https:\/\/magazine.luxus-plus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Saint_Tropez_Sens_Fete.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>The anonymous guests mingled with his loyal and famous friends and prot\u00e9g\u00e9s<\/b> such as <b>Rhoda Scott, Garry Cowl, Johnny Hallyday, Charles Aznavour, Henri Salvador, Roman Polanski, C\u00e9sar, Mich\u00e8le Morgan, and Philippe Lavil.<\/b> Long before Philippe Bouvard and Thierry Ardisson, it was he who had the brilliant idea of <b>bringing together artists, businesspeople, politicians, doctors, and athletes for the same evening.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But the prestigious guest list would be nothing without Eddie Barclay&#8217;s <b>sense of spectacle<\/b>. The <b>buffets<\/b> were <b>served on individual plates by a dozen Michelin-starred chefs<\/b>, the <b>17-piece Count Basie Orchestra<\/b> played on the terrace, and the <b>Gypsy Kings<\/b> welcomed guests at the entrance. Add to that <b>Brazilian dancers<\/b> and a high-quality <b>sound and light show<\/b> directed by Jacques Rouveyrollis, all topped off with <b>fireworks<\/b>. Needless to say, this was a rarity for a private party at the time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And <strong>when the master of the house wasn&#8217;t hosting his annual party, he would start by wandering around the Caf\u00e9 des Arts, Chabichou, Pizza Romana, and Bistrot des Lices, before heading to the Caves du Roy, which housed the Barclay&#8217;s Club<\/strong>, a private space where his die-hard p\u00e9tanque and billiards friends would gather.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_33947\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-33947\" style=\"width: 814px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-33947\" src=\"https:\/\/magazine.luxus-plus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Eddie_Barclay_Que_la_fete_continue-814x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"814\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/magazine.luxus-plus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Eddie_Barclay_Que_la_fete_continue-814x1024.jpg 814w, https:\/\/magazine.luxus-plus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Eddie_Barclay_Que_la_fete_continue-238x300.jpg 238w, https:\/\/magazine.luxus-plus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Eddie_Barclay_Que_la_fete_continue-768x966.jpg 768w, https:\/\/magazine.luxus-plus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Eddie_Barclay_Que_la_fete_continue-60x76.jpg 60w, https:\/\/magazine.luxus-plus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Eddie_Barclay_Que_la_fete_continue.jpg 1192w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 814px) 100vw, 814px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-33947\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cover of the book \u201cQue la f\u00eate continue\u201d by Eddie Barclay<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>All this nighttime frenzy can be found in \u201cQue la f\u00eate continue\u201d (Let the Party Continue) (Cogite, Robert Lafont, 1988), the autobiography of the jet-setter in white, or in an exceptional photo exhibition at Place Blanqui, Square de Lattre de Tassigny, Place Celli in Saint-Tropez, which runs until October 12, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>A global phenomenon<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When <strong>Eddie Barclay passed away on May 13, 2005<\/strong>, he was ruined and his island-shaped swimming pool felt very lonely. <strong>Jean Roch, DJ and owner of the VIP Room club, had the honor of mixing at the last four official Nuits Blanches.<\/strong> The concept is being kept alive, as best it can, at the Before in Monaco, under the aegis of Guillaume, the photographer son of the late Barclay. For his part, <strong>chef Christophe Leroy is continuing the legacy of his deceased mentor by organizing a grand Soir\u00e9e Blanche every summer at Les Moulins de Ramatuelle restaurant to kick off the Saint-Tropez season.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Soir\u00e9es Blanches are becoming more mainstream: clubs, private beaches, and festivals are quick to capitalize on the concept created by Eddie Barclay to give themselves a more chic and elegant image and attract aspiring Beautiful People. Especially since white, the color of purity, also helps to erase social hierarchies. <b>Attending these parties is first and foremost about being seen and showing that you&#8217;re part of the crowd.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>The Soir\u00e9e Blanche even left its original festive sphere to open up to other event formats<\/b> such as after-work parties, team-building seminars, and cocktail dinners. On June 14, <b>the Domaine Les Cray\u00e8res in Reims<\/b> organized its <b>13th Soir\u00e9e Blanche<\/b>. The program included 4,000 bottles of champagne sabered, a live concert (Rosace, LEJ, and Circus Music) followed by a DJ set. On the same day, <b>the Ch\u00e2teau de Chantilly<\/b> hosted its <b>sixth Pique-Nique en Blanc<\/b>. First, <b>its flexibility<\/b>: a white evening can take place on an urban rooftop or at a village festival. It is also <b>a format that is perfectly suited to the age of social media<\/b>, with the omnipresence of white making the event both photogenic and sleek and bright. In his Hamptons villa, purchased for $50 million in 2020, the CEO of Fanatics\u2014one of the world&#8217;s leading sports apparel companies\u2014brings together an ever more prestigious lineup of celebrities from the worlds of film, music, influencers, and sports every year on the US national holiday. The 2023 edition welcomed Kim Kardashian, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kylian Mbapp\u00e9, Jay-Z, Jennifer Lopez, and Ben Affleck.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>The concept has even crossed borders and spread to non-Western regions<\/b>, where white is not necessarily a color associated with joy or marriage.
