In 2022, the mythical establishment announced its closure, definitive at the time. As indicated three years ago, the address in the heart of Pigalle, too expensive and weakened by Covid, should be razed to build a hotel. A reconstitution of the festive spaces was then envisaged, without however healing the mourning of its followers.

Johnny Hallyday, Eddy Mitchell, Mike Jagger, Gloria Gaynor…

In 1965, at 6 rue Pierre-Fontaine in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, James Arch and James Thibault unveiled their club, open to all. And its name reflects the ambition of the place. The idea was to go pick up the young people in the suburbs by shuttle bus to allow them to have fun in the capital. A unique mix of social classes and personalities, all united by the love of partying. The name Palladium refers to a famous New York nightclub. Bus Palladium was born.

Very quickly, the establishment becomes a mecca of rock and nightlife. Salvador Dali gives him his first letters of nobility by inviting twenty friends to celebrate one evening and by making the apology, relayed by journalists, of the place, more and more frequented by party lovers. To the point that great names either sang or danced there. Mike Jagger, Johnny Hallyday, Julien Clerc, Eddy Mitchell, Gloria Gaynor, Chagrin d’Amour… All of them passed through the doors of the Bus Palladium. Serge Gainsbourg and Michel Delpech even praised it in their songs.

To adapt to the time, rock leaves room for disco in the following years. In addition to concerts and dance evenings, the club organizes the Bus d’acier in the 80s, an award ceremony aimed at rewarding French rock artists such as Alain Bashung, Indochine, Etienne Daho and Noir Désir.

Despite the unique aura of the Bus Palladium, the address prized by partygoers is experiencing some financial difficulties in the 2010s. Covid will come to dampen the cash flow of the case, bringing it very quickly towards a definitive closure on April 2, 2022. We lost a lot of money (…) The Bus, it’s a hollow tooth” confessed then to Radio France, Cyril Bodin, artistic director of this musical jewel. The Moma Group, which had been operating the place since 2009, then returned the keys to Christian Casmèze, owner of the walls. The building has since been razed before rising from its ashes.

© DR

A metamorphosis into a 5-star hotel

After two and a half years of construction and work, the Bus Palladium, having kept its name, is experiencing a real resurrection. In place of the old night club, there is now a 5-star boutique hotel signed by the architects of Studio KO, under the aegis of the hotel group Chapitre Six.

The design is inspired by the 60s with a sensual and hedonistic atmosphere, but also raw and radical as at the time. The hotel has 35 rooms and suites, including a majestic “Magic Rock” key of 80 m2. On the ground floor, a 90-seat restaurant, a bar and a lobby welcome guests.

But the establishment does not intend to lose its festive aura, having seen the greatest rock stars. In the basement, a 200-seat concert hall is open, with bare ceilings and cork walls. Even if, in a few days, the nightclub should close its doors at the beginning of the night, there is no doubt that it should be the scene of festive and musical events that will once again vibrate this mythical place.

Read also :The best Art deco addresses in Paris

Featured photo : © Bus Palladium

Mecca of music that can no longer be trendy since its opening in 1965, the Bus Palladium had closed its doors in 2022 after having danced all over Paris for several decades.
