According to France Culture, demand has exploded over the past decade, with around 4.7 million tons harvested worldwide each year, causing dramatic consequences for ecosystems and local populations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The first and major issue is that avocado cultivation is extremely water-intensive. It takes about 1,000 liters of water to produce 1 kg of avocados, nearly seven times more than for a kilo of lettuce. The report also indicates that up to 80% of respondents consider sustainability when buying food, placing it among the categories where environmental concerns are highest.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In terms of concrete actions, a survey by Kearney (2023) found that 27% of consumers think about the environmental impact of their food when shopping, while 83% say they are willing to substitute a high-carbon product, like beef, for a more climate-friendly alternative at least once a week.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Despite this awareness, understanding and information remain major obstacles.
