{"id":5392,"date":"2021-07-27T16:54:20","date_gmt":"2021-07-27T14:54:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/magazine.luxus-plus.com\/?p=5392"},"modified":"2021-07-27T16:56:31","modified_gmt":"2021-07-27T14:56:31","slug":"rediscover-the-drury-lane-theatre-royal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/magazine.luxus-plus.com\/en\/rediscover-the-drury-lane-theatre-royal\/","title":{"rendered":"Rediscover the Drury Lane Theatre Royal"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"initial-letter\"><p>After two years of work and $80 million invested, the landmark Drury Lane Theatre has reopened.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The goal of the <strong>Drury Lane Theatre renovation<\/strong> was to keep this <strong>historic cultural<\/strong> venue open year-round, not just for <strong>performances.<\/strong> Known as <strong>The Lane<\/strong> and founded in 1663, it is the oldest <strong>theater<\/strong> in <strong>London<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Theatre Royal Drury Lane | 2021 refurbishment first look\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yvtHAAvIP64?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>auditorium<\/strong> has been completely renovated, as have the massive staircases and the champagne bar inspired by the <strong>Pantheon<\/strong> in Rome and the cocktail bar named after photographer <strong>Cecil Beaton<\/strong>. <strong>Composer Lloyd Webber<\/strong> purchased the theater in 2019 with his wife Madeleine.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Together, they organized the \u00a360 million ($82 million) <strong>renovation<\/strong> to honor the <strong>theater&#8217;s history<\/strong>. How to restore architect Benjamin Dean Wyatt&#8217;s glorious proscenium rooms, how to repair the 1922 auditorium, and finally, how to make this extraordinary building a versatile and vibrant heart of Covent Garden&#8217;s artistic soul<\/em>,&#8221; <strong>Lloyd Webber<\/strong> said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>The restoration of the Theatre Royal, which brings together my two great passions, theater and architecture, has been a colossal task made very difficult by the covid pandemic.
