Its name has a certain symbolic value as it pays tribute to the designer Gabrielle Chanel, who was born on August 19<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Covered with concrete wires designed as gigantic wefts suspended from the roof and falling towards the ground, this seven-storey space is located on the edge of the <strong>19<sup>th<\/sup> arrondissement of Paris<\/strong>, in the north of the capital. It also includes an exhibition space open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.fashionnetwork.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/fit=contain,width=1000,height=1000\/m\/4cd1\/d04d\/8436\/01d8\/7db4\/499b\/618e\/87f4\/bdc3\/bb31\/bb31.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"559\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Overall view of the 19M workshop complex. \u00a9 Chanel<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Officially inaugurated on January 20<sup>th<\/sup>, French President <strong>Emmanuel Macron<\/strong> and First Lady <strong>Brigitte Macron<\/strong> were present at the complex and spent two hours touring the workshops, examining the embroidery work and talking to the artisans on site that day.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>Your craft is an art craft&#8230; Your craft is important for the economy,<\/em>&#8221; said <strong>Emmanuel Macron<\/strong> during his visit. &#8220;<em>Today, when I look at the figures for 2021, it is &#8211; fashion &#8211; our country&#8217;s leading export sector,<\/em>&#8221; he continued.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Who takes up residence at 19M?<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For the record, it was originally an initiative by <strong>Karl Lagerfeld<\/strong> and <strong>Virginie Viard<\/strong> to refocus the need for art and know-how at the heart of fashion. This initiative was first put into practice by highlighting the specialised know-how of its craftsmen during its M\u00e9tiers d&#8217;Art fashion shows. The latest one, unveiled on 7 December 2021, was held in the heart of the 19M.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ASw7rKUKZYQ\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Since 1985, and particularly since Karl Lagerfeld was appointed artistic director of the fashion house, Chanel has been a real supporter of France&#8217;s exceptional craft heritage.
