After an absence of one year, the 80th Golden Globes ceremony, during which the Hollywood Foreign Press Association awards the best works of cinema and television, was held this Tuesday, January 10. “The Fabelmans”, and “The Banshees of Inisherin” are the big winners of this edition.
The 80th Golden Globes ceremony made its grand return this Tuesday, January 10 at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in California. The jury of the ceremony, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), had indeed been accused of a lack of diversity in the organization and among its members, leading to a boycott and the absence of television broadcast during the previous edition. African-American comedian Jerrod Carmichael, the evening’s regular host, put his foot down right away, saying, “I’ll tell you why I’m here. I’m here because I’m black“. However, after two years of controversy, the Golden Globes were highly anticipated and the ceremony went off without a hitch.
The big winners of this 80th edition
On the winners’ side, American director Steven Spielberg unsurprisingly won the Golden Globe for best director, as well as best dramatic film, for his semi-autobiographical film The Febelmans. Inisherin’s The Banshees won Best Comedy, whose director, Martin McDonagh, also won Best Screenplay, and Colin Farell won Best Actor in a Comedy. The exquisite Cate Blanchett was awarded Best Actress for her performance in Tar, while Austin Butler was named Best Actor with Elvis, both nominated for Best Drama. Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh won best actress in a comedy for Everything Everywhere All at Once. In its own category, the well-written House of the Dragon was awarded Best Drama Series, while Abbott Elementary won Best Comedy Series. Also of note, Zendaya, who was not present at the ceremony, won best actress in a drama series.
