Coachella 2025: a festival between music, glamour and trends

With hundreds of thousands of people coming to party under the California sun, the Coachella Festival is surely the most famous and trendy musical event in the United States. And in 2025, programming should once again attract crowds from around the world.

Founded in 1999, Coachella is the hottest festival in America. For more than 25 years, music lovers, party-goers but also those who want to see and be seen, have been visiting near Los Angeles, California during these two three-day weekends. David Guetta, Beyoncé, Daft Punk, Kanye West, Radiohead, Frank Ocean, Ariana Grande, Madonna… The biggest celebrities walked one of the six stages spread over tens of hectares where infrastructures and animations come to punctuate the concerts.

The Coachella fashion spirit

More than just a festival bringing together the superstars of the moment, Coachella is the glamour event par excellence. Music enthusiasts are mixed with more or less followed influencers who would not miss this annual ultra-popular event for anything in the world. #Coachella has 5.6 million posts on Instagram and 616,600 posts on Tiktok.

The opportunity to be part of a community but also to unveil its most beautiful looks. So much so that a unique style was born from this effervescence: the Coachella fashion. From cowboycore outfits to bohemian silhouettes through grunge, clothes, makeup and hairstyles are in the spotlight. Light floral dresses, crochet top, suede boots, fringed jacket, butterfly corset, neon accessories, denim shorts… While some pieces come back every year, content creators rely on ephemeral trends to stand out and take THE picture in front of the festival’s pop and artistic installations.

The make-up is also worked, with a profusion of glitter, colored liner, pearls and light games on the face. As for hairstyles, everything is allowed. Natural curly hair, plaited braids or ponytails, the hair is plural and accompanied by accessories to raise the festival outfit to a sharp fashion look.

Unlike the 2000s, when the bohemian look reigned supreme, the mid-2020s festival-goer’s wardrobe features more relaxed and comfortable outfits that oscillate between nostalgia for the noughties and streetwear.

$114 million in 2017 profit

Thanks to the popularity of the artists present, Coachella generates impressive revenues. In 2017, the event recorded $114 million in profits. Sums made thanks to the expensive amount of tickets: between 500 and 600 dollars for a 3-day pass. But the festival can also count on those tickets that offer more benefits, such as bars and private areas, at a price of 930 to 1,050 dollars. The VIP passes, which range from $1,100 to $1,400, offer their owners even more upscale and crowd-safe experiences.

It is also with accommodation that the festival fills its coffers. While a pitch or standard tent costs between $125 and $200, glamping, with its equipped and comfortable tents, has prices ranging from $1,000 to $4,000. Not including additional charges for parking, food, drinks and goodies on site. Prices that do not push visitors away since the first tickets sell in a little more than an hour.

Performances certainly impressive but necessary in view of the marks taken by the artists. In 2019, Beyoncé and Ariana Grande were paid $8 million, as was The Weeknd in 2022, which received $8.5 million. The Guns N’Roses reportedly received approximately $14 million for two nights of concerts in 2017.

And the event has, in addition to the artists on stage, many stars who walk on the dry and earthy ground of the festival. While some of them come between close people to have fun, others are paid by the festival or brands to attend the event. In 2023, according to the New York Daily News, actresses and singers Lea Michele and Vanessa Hudgens received $20,000 and $15,000 respectively from companies to promote their products. A great strategy to strengthen the Coachella aura.

This year, fashion was center stage. Singer Jennie, from K-pop group BLACKPINK, revisited the western style when she arrived on the second weekend wearing a black Mugler coat dress and red vinyl shorts from Mugler’s spring-summer 1992 collection, entitled “Les Cowboys.” Tyla wore an outfit reminiscent of Britney Spears’ 1999 MTV VMA performance, with a green bra, body jewelry, and denim mini-shorts.

Queen Lady Gaga chose a goth-inspired coat over a white bodysuit by Matières Fécales, while Megan Thee Stallion opted for black leather shorts and a bra top. Benson Boone dazzled the audience with his crop top with blue details and white flared pants, paired with a heart buckle belt. Finally, the singer of “Bags” and “Juno,” Clairo (Claire Cottril), introduced to everyone’s surprise by unsuccessful US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, wore a sheer ruffled dress with a silk and lace bra.
