The Californian rap icon put on a brilliant half-time show at the Super Bowl, held in New Orleans on 9 February. Between Kendrick Lamar’s concert and his many surprises, let’s take a look back at a colourful evening.
The evening of Sunday 9 February was punctuated by the iconic Super Bowl 2025, the final of the American football championship. In front of 80,000 spectators at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans and a number of high-profile celebrities, the Philadelphia Eagles won the game against the Kansas City Chiefs, 40 to 22.
Kendrick Lamar’s musical half-time show
While the clash between the two teams galvanised the crowd, the whole world was waiting for the traditional half-time show, always associated with large-scale musical performances. While Usher performed last year, Kendrick Lamar was chosen to perform this year.
With five Grammy Awards to his name last week, the Californian rapper became the first hip-hop artist to perform solo at the 59th edition of the sporting event. Dressed in Celine bootcut jeans and a leather jacket by Martine Rose, emblazoned with Gloria on the front in reference to the name of a track on his GNX album, Kendrick Lamar performed a series of his best-known tracks.

Humble, DNA, Peekaboo, Squabble Up… The artist set the stage alight and surprised the 80,000-strong audience and 123.4 million American TV viewers with a number of guests. To send a political message of support to the African-American community, the rapper called on actor and producer Samuel L. Jackson. Jackson played the role of Uncle Sam, with a line of dialogue insinuating that the show would be ‘too ghetto’ and thus run counter to the values advocated in Trump’s America.
SZA then accompanied her on Luther and All the Stars. The singer wore a monochrome red look, with a square leather jacket by Born x Raised, a lace and fishnet corset, lace-up trousers with a fur detail on the hips and high-top trainers.

Tennis legend Serena Williams was also spotted with the dancers, dressed in the colours of the American flag, for the track Not Like Us. The athlete chose to represent her sport with a tenniscore ensemble consisting of a blue pleated mini-skirt, a matching light jacket, a white Nike tank top and high Converse shoes.

It should also be noted that for a brief moment, an individual dressed as a dancer held up a banner with the Sudanese and Palestinian flags, which read Sudan and Gaza. This person was quickly stopped by security.
Guests in attendance
As is the case every year, celebrities did not miss out on America’s flagship sporting event. Not least Taylor Swift, who came to support her partner Travis Kelce, star player for the Kansas City Chiefs. Dressed simply in denim shorts and a white tank top, the singer, who watched the match alongside rapper Ice Spice, nonetheless caused a stir with the “T” charm necklace she wore on her thigh at the Grammy Awards last week. A letter that naturally echoes her sporting boyfriend.

Also present were Jay-Z and his daughters Blue Ivy and Rumi, singer Lady Gaga in a dark look and her partner Michael Polansky, actors Miles Teller, Paul Rudd and Kevin Costner, and footballers Messi, Griezmann and Rodri.

Another controversial guest also took to the Super Bowl pitch: President Donald Trump, seated in the box with his daughter Ivanka and son Eric, but without his partner Melania. He was the first president to attend the event.
