Legs, smile, bottom… When stars insure their bodies

Taking out insurance for a part of your body: the idea may seem whimsical to the average person. However, many celebrities have chosen to protect their most precious possessions in this way.

At first glance, it is difficult to really understand the point of insuring one’s physical appearance. But when the body is correlated with the huge income of a celebrity, everything makes sense. From footballers’ legs to the unique voices of the greatest singers, not to mention certain attributes of it-girls, for several years now, stars all over the world have been insuring part of their anatomy. Why? In the event of injury or accident, the insurance compensates for the loss of direct income from their activities, as well as from advertising contracts. A financial safety net, often reaching millions of dollars, could not be more serious. Here is a selection of celebrities who perfectly illustrate this phenomenon.

David Beckham’s legs for $200 million

If there is one celebrity who has relied on her looks to increase her popularity, it is Kim Kardashian. The it-girl and businesswoman is world-famous for her 110-centimeter-circumference buttocks, which gave rise to the former trend of BBL, a surgery to increase the volume of the buttocks. Although it is now smaller, her buttocks were once valued at 21 million dollars. The singer Jennifer Lopez is also said to have taken out insurance for her bottom, estimated at 27 million dollars.

In addition to the buttocks, another part closely associated with female beauty, namely certain famous breasts, are also insured against the hazards of life. The bust of the singer Madonna, whose conical corset designed by Jean Paul Gaultier has become iconic in the fashion world. The artist’s breasts are insured for 2 million dollars.

Legs are surely one of the most insured body parts of celebrities. Singer Taylor Swift‘s legs are worth more than 26 million dollars (40 according to some sources) while Rihanna‘s are insured for 1 million dollars. Model Heidi Klum‘s legs differ in terms of price: 1.2 million for the right and 1 million for the left due to a scar.

And while an injury can mean the end of a career and therefore of advertising contracts, footballers also insure their legs, like Cristiano Ronaldo (144 million dollars for the right and 70 million for the left) and David Beckham (between 150 and 200 million dollars).

1 billion for Mariah Carey’s voice

The voices are also highly protected by musical artists. Mariah Carey has insured her golden voice for 46 million dollars. Some sources even mention the impressive sum of 1 billion dollars. For her part, Miley Cyrus’ tongue, which the singer enjoys revealing during her concerts, is said to be worth 1 million dollars. Also in this area of the face, Julia Roberts’ smile is estimated at 30 million dollars.

Daniel Craig is said to have taken out insurance for 8 million dollars on his entire physique during the James Bond saga, many of the action scenes of which were directed by the actor himself. While the fingers of Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards are insured for 1.6 million dollars.

Aware of the income generated by their looks or attributes, celebrities intend to protect their livelihood with these substantial insurance policies which, like their physical appearance, turn the heads of the general public.
