The most beautiful hotels in Bretagne

Between its pink granite coastline and its beaches overlooking the sea or the Atlantic Ocean, Brittany has a wealth of hotels nestling in chic seaside resorts or villages that are well worth a visit. Here’s a selection of five dream establishments for an iodised holiday.

Le Nessay in Saint-Briac

Part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World catalogue, Le Nessay is housed in a 19th-century building on the site of a former fortified castle on the Saint-Briac peninsula in Ille-et-Vilaine. With its feet in the water, facing the bay, this hotel in Brittany immerses you in the gentleness of the region. Nestling in the main building, the annexes and the poternes, the 17 rooms are warm and intimate. Le Nessay has also recently inaugurated its private house, with several white-panelled rooms and a large swimming pool. Still in the spirit of a family guest house, the restaurant opens onto the kitchen, orchestrated by Thomas Estrader. Fresh fish is served with the sea as a backdrop. The elegant spa is led by Phytomer products, whose reputation for marine active ingredients and their benefits is well established. And for an activity-packed stay, you can hit a few balls at the Saint-Briac golf course, take a stroll along the Emerald Coast and swim at Grande Salinette.

AGAPA in Perros-Guirec

In Perros-Guirec, in the north of Brittany, L’Agapa enjoys a sublime location in the heart of the Côte de Granit Rose, facing the sea. The 45 rooms are spread over three buildings, with clean designs and neutral tones. Some have exceptional views over the Bay of Seven Islands. In terms of cuisine, Le Bélouga is an ode to French cuisine with a twist of flavours from near and far, inspired by chef Steve Carda’s travels. The room is entirely glazed and seems to be at one with the water, and the beautiful panoramic terrace is the ideal place for a drink in the sun. And the 400m2 spa is an invitation to well-being, once again inspired by the hotel’s marine atmosphere.

The Grand Hôtel Barrière in Dinard

This five-star hotel in Dinard is a veritable cocoon of serenity, with a terrace and gardens nestling in the stone property and facing the sea. The hotel, owned by the Barrière group, blends the refinement of the Second Empire with the elegance of the Belle Epoque, while offering modern comforts. The 86 rooms have a sophisticated seaside style, with deep blues and soft beiges that recall the colours of the beach, and views over the ramparts of Saint-Malo, the town or the charming private garden. At the heart of this jewel of the Emerald Coast is the Le George V restaurant, designed by Wilfried Lacaille, and its cuisine of fish, seafood and Breton dishes such as the famous kouign-amann. The Diane Barrière spa is one of the most beautiful and pleasant in the region, and offers a wellness day with lunch at 333 Café, the hotel bar.

This former boarding house, converted into a military retreat after the Second World War, has been transformed into an elegant upmarket hotel in the style of a family home. Under the aegis of the H8 Collection group, Castel Beau Site in Perros-Guirec is a perfect example of the chic seaside villas of the Pink Granite Coast. Its 33 rooms, with views of the sea or the customs path, are as refined as they are radiant. On the ground floor, the La Table de mon Père restaurant serves up the finest flavours of Breton cuisine, using local produce carefully selected by chef Nicolas Le Luyer. The bar is a great place to enjoy a drink while admiring the beach, seated on wicker chairs and surrounded by marine decor.

A Relais & Châteaux hotel, the Hôtel de la Plage in Plonévez-Porzay in Finistère boasts a direct view of the beach, the various pinks of heather and the granite typical of the region. Looking off into the distance, the ocean never seems to stop. Built in 1895, the establishment’s immaculate facades enhance the iodine air that spreads throughout the property. In addition to its discreet location, the four-star hotel has just 19 rooms, allowing guests to enjoy their stay in complete privacy. With its panoramic view and large glass roof, Yoann Noël’s table is a fusion of sea and land. Pure pleasure. And to help you recover from all those tasty emotions, the spa has a gentle, natural atmosphere, with a whirlpool bath, a hammam with humid, oriental heat and a Scandinavian-style sauna.
