Winter is coming to Saint Laurent

Under the direction of Anthony Vaccarello, the house of Saint Laurent unveiled its fall-winter 2021-2022 collection, in a desert of ice that offers a stunning contrast to the pieces presented.

Saint Laurent‘s artistic director since April 2016, Anthony Vaccarello, presented his fall-winter 2021-2022 collection through a video titled “Where the silver wind blows“. Filmed in a cold, deserted landscape reminiscent of the Icelandic dunes, the video of the fashion show is directed by Nathalie Canguilhem.

After having realized, last January, the summer 2021 collection in the Moroccan sand dunes, the winter of Saint Laurent already announces the color for this season. Set to the music of SebastiAn, a figure of French electro, which includes the track “Sarajevo” by Max Richter, the show transports us to the heart of a setting reminiscent of the hit HBO series, Games of Thrones.

To describe his ambitions for the future of the house of Saint Laurent, Anthony Vaccarello had stated in February 2020: “I wanted to find this balance or tension that defines the modernity of the Saint Laurent style, between the mastery of rigor and the abandonment of pleasure”. This vision is particularly felt in the design of his fall-winter 2021-2022 collection.

The collection is directly inspired by the style of 90s rock singer Peaches. Tweed jackets and suits, key pieces of the sixties, make their comeback for Saint Laurent‘s winter. The metallic jersey bodysuits, meanwhile, draw their inspiration from the 70s. Accessories play a significant role in the collection, with imposing jewels highlighting the silhouettes.

Serious issues make you take other things less seriously, finding the balance while staying on the cutting edge is a sophisticated skill,” says Anthony Vaccarello in an explanatory note.

For the collection, the artistic director of Saint Laurent is not limited to the usual sobriety of the house but dares colors: bright pink, turquoise, purple … The first colorful silhouettes of the collection gradually give way to black and white outfits, which sometimes include touches of gold and red.
