Adidas x Stella McCartney: the new muse reveals her hairy armpits and causes controversy

Adidas and Stella McCartney have chosen to unveil their new collaboration through a striking advert: Leila Davis, a professional dancer revealing her unshaved armpits. An image that has already created controversy on social networks, triggering the relentlessness of Internet users.

Adidas has just unveiled a new sportswear collection on Instagram by the famous designer Stella McCartneyThe line, embodied by the new muse Leila Davis, revealed the professional pole dancer and choreographer in her natural state, wearing a blue bra, revealing unshaved armpits, and in the foreground.

The publication quickly generated reactions from Internet users, both indignant and otherwise. While some congratulated her gesture, others made their disagreement known, sometimes even going so far as to publish sexist and racist attacks.

“It’s so misogynistic to attack a woman for having hair,” the model said on Twitter. They wouldn’t react like this if it was a man, and the level of anger they have towards me is clearly because I’m black. It drives them crazy that a major brand has given me a platform.”

“I remember the first day of the shoot. I hadn’t waxed and in the end I thought ‘this is who I am au naturel, this is good'” she told Yahoo Life.

“Using sport for good is at the heart of what we do, whether it’s with our people, our products, our actions or the pictures we present to the world. Sport belongs to everyone and we strive to meet the needs of all athletes, and therefore represent them,” says the German equipment manufacturer.

In a society where women are not allowed to show any hair and have to depilate every part of their body, more and more people in the fashion industry but also in society in general are claiming this discriminatory ideology.

Even though the body liberation and anti-feminist movements are increasingly surfacing, the fight is far from unanimous. The fact is that in the 21st century, a woman who does not wax is shocked, pointed at, mocked and sometimes even insulted. The Adidas advertising campaign proves it once again.

Leila David is not the first to reveal a part of her body that is not waxed and to claim gender equality through this issue.

Two years ago, it was the famous model Cara Delevingne who caused a stir by revealing her hairy armpits in a series of shots posted on Instagram.

A few months later, Emily Ratajkowski followed suit by posing for Harper’s Bazaar: “If I decide to wax or grow hair, it’s my choice. I tend to like shaving, but sometimes letting my hair grow is what makes me feel sexy,” she told the American magazine.

In September last year, Lily-Rose Depp‘s unshaved armpits were also seen in a series of holiday snaps posted on Instagram.

Last November, Emma Corrin, who plays Lady Diana in the Netflix series “The Crown”, made the same gesture on the front page of the British edition of “Glamour”, “I’ve wanted to grow my hair out for a few years. I didn’t do it before because I was in a relationship and I guess I was programmed to think I should probably shave for the sake of both parties. But boy, I really don’t want to shave! I thought, “Why did I even bother?”. It’s a pretty disappointing realisation, there’s no drama in it. I hope it’s about to become normal and not be noticed anymore.”
