Christmas and New Year are approaching, and with them the lavish meals where top-of-the-range products reign supreme. And caviar in particular. Here is a selection of the best sturgeon eggs from historic Houses, to give as gifts or treat yourself to over the festive season.
House of Caviar
Founded in 1956 by the importer of caviars from the Caspian Sea, at the instigation of His Majesty the Shah of Iran, La Maison du Caviar is a must-visit address in Paris. At number 21, rue Quentin Bauchart, in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, this showcase decorated by the architects of the Oitoemponto studio welcomes its guests in a hushed, elegant, artistic and festive atmosphere. Guests can enjoy classic Russian dishes such as borscht, pirojkis and beef Stroganoff, as well as chic creations such as avocado surprise and prawns with caviar. In our delicatessen corner or online, exceptional products can be taken home to extend the top-of-the-range experience. For the festive season, treat yourself to the discovery basket containing Osciètre Imperial Caviar (30g), Baeri Prestige Caviar (30g) and Osciètre Royal Caviar (30g), all delicately protected in a velvet pouch and accompanied by a mother-of-pearl spoon. For a more varied selection, choose the box with Baeri Prestige Caviar (30g), Scottish salmon (2 slices), white tarama (90g), 4 blinis, Isigny Sainte-Mère crème fraîche and a lemon.
Prunier
Launched in 1872 by Alfred Prunier, Maison Prunier celebrates products of excellence and became France’s leading caviar producer in 1921. At its restaurant in the 16th arrondissement, at 6 avenue Victor Hugo, the eye is drawn to the original Art Deco decor, protected as a historic monument, as well as the lounge designed by Jacques Grange for Pierre Bergé and the recently inaugurated champagne bar. Here, seafood takes pride of place, sublimated by chef Yannick Alléno. There are several options for festive gifts: the boxed set with Prunier caviar (125g), the tasting set with three caviars, Tradition, Saint James and Paris, or the caviar duo with Baeri Tradition and Osciètre Supérieur.
Caviar Kaspia
An institution since 1927, Caviar Kaspia reigns supreme at 17 place de la Madeleine in the 8th arrondissement of Paris. The restaurant is an ode to elegance, enhanced by touches of the brand’s signature light blue. Here you can enjoy a wide variety of eggs with salmon or caviar, as well as seafood dishes such as grilled octopus, red tuna and prawns. For Christmas, treat yourself to the ultra-complete festive boxed set, with caviar, blinis, tarama, potatoes with caviar and sancerre. It’s the perfect gift, and perfectly in tune with the idea of sharing.
Volzhenka
A family-run fishery, Volzhenka has been producing caviar for over half a century. It all began in Astrakhan, an ancient city on the banks of the Volga, not far from the Caspian Sea. Today, Volzhenka’s farms are based in Greece and Italy. As well as its remarkably fine, iodised taste, Volzhenka caviar is distinguished by its engraved polished glass case and wide cap, which is akin to a luxury item. What could be better than to offer a Volzhenka box that you can compose yourself according to your caviar preferences, available in 125g, 250g and 500g. A bespoke mother-of-pearl and silver-plated spoon designed by artist Ramdane Touhami completes the gift.
Petrossian
More than 100 years ago, the first Petrossian boutique opened in Paris. Since then, several shops have opened in the capital. The delicatessen offers salmon, crab, bottarga, tarama, truffles, foie gras… and of course caviar. To appreciate the full range of tastes, the limited edition Christmas box includes six Spécial Réserve® caviars in 50g tins, with Ossetra, Beluga, Baeri Baïka, Daurenki and Sevruga Steluga. The Les Bests basket is made up of Petrossian’s best specialities, while the Caviars du Monde box is an invitation to travel.
