Paris Design Week: Our must-see favorites

As part of the Maison & Objet show, Paris Design Week takes over the capital with a host of events and design works to discover. Here is a small guide to our must-see events, to be seen from September 8 to 17.

The design studied

At the Monnaie de Paris, the decorator Vincent Darré unveils a new exhibition, called “Psychoanalysis of a four-legged furniture”. This whimsical and immersive scenography of a cabinet of curiosities reveals the exceptional know-how of 13 manufacturers, members of the Haute Facture de l’Ameublement français collective. The visitor is invited to walk through a labyrinth of corridors lined with geometric acoustic foam. Embedded in the walls, large frames allow to detail with a magnifying glass fragments of each craft. Outside the building, there is also the work of Bina Baitel as part of her exhibition Coins and Wonders. In the main courtyard, the architect has designed a monumental inflatable fountain where you can throw coins and make a wish.

Between furniture and architecture

The architect Isabelle Stanislas is taking up residence at the Hôtel de Sully, rue Saint-Antoine, in the 4th arrondissement. A specialist in interiors with pure forms, the architect is unveiling three new pieces of furniture in a scenography specially designed for the occasion. In the garden, three architectural follies, one of which is dedicated to the world of film director Dustin Lynn, are set up as a dialogue between function and furniture, furniture and architecture.

Young talents

In the Espace Commines of the Paris Design Week Factory, the new talents of the design are exposed to deploy all their creativity and new ways of thinking. One can discover the publishing label 13 Desserts, created by Clément Rougelot and Kevin Dolci. The latter collaborates with a dozen designers and craftsmen to create contemporary pieces on a sustainable consumption scale.

More sustainable furniture by Polcha x Pinton

Presented for the first time in the capital, the Evolution 0005 carpet by the Polcha design collective is a unique and original creation made from recycled pieces from the archives of the Manufacture Pinton. The latter has recently implemented the recovery and recycling of textile fibers such as scraps or samples, in line with the approach of reuse of materials by the studio Polcha. To be discovered at 71 rue du Cherche-Midi, in the 6th arrondissement.

Staging

Back in the Marais, in the Ellia art gallery, for the exhibition of the famous designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. He presents his collection “Mise en scène”, made of flashy decoration objects related to the world of childhood. We discover among others the “furniture companions” or “Human Chair”, human seats that he has developed in collaboration with the designer Thomas Dariel and which are next to benches personified, published by Maison Dada.
