What are the best destinations to travel to in 2026?

The travel-focused platform Travel and Tour World has revealed the 50 most popular countries to visit in 2026. And the top spots are, to say the least, eclectic.

 

Travel and Tour World (TTW), a media platform dedicated to tourism and travel for professionals (with over 15 million readers worldwide), has published its ranking of the 50 tourist destinations for 2026. This list, covering six continents and more than 40 regions, highlights the countries that will shape global travel demand over the next 12 months. TTW based its ranking on reader engagement, editorial analysis, destination performance indicators, and global safety references.

 

“The ranking of the 50 best global tourist destinations for 2026 reflects the changing priorities of travelers worldwide: experience, safety, and authenticity are more important than ever. […] It is both a reflection of travelers’ expectations and a roadmap for the global tourism industry” explains Anup Kumar Keshan, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of Travel and Tour World.

 

A varied Top 10

 

In first place, Japan stands out for its rich heritage, renowned cuisine, and blend of ancient traditions with futuristic innovations. From bustling Tokyo to traditional countryside and numerous islands, the country is also valued for its safety.

Canada takes the silver medal. With its vast landscapes, multicultural cities, and sustainable initiatives, the country attracts travelers seeking nature, friendliness, and serenity. Following closely is Ireland, known for its deeply rooted Celtic heritage. Castles, literary heritage, and welcoming culture make the country likely to see strong tourism in 2026.

 

 

In fourth place, Mexico boasts a major asset: its ancient Mayan ruins and UNESCO World Heritage sites. The top five is rounded out by the United Kingdom.

 

Ranked sixth, France remains a must-visit destination with 100 million international tourists in 2024, making it still the world’s top tourist destination. From the glamorous French Riviera to the lights of Paris and historic sites like the Loire Valley castles and Mont-Saint-Michel, France continues to be a cornerstone of European tourism.

Australia and Germany follow. On one hand, Australia offers an outdoor lifestyle combining natural wonders and dynamic cities; on the other, Germany is ideal for a weekend getaway or a business trip. Between Alpine landscapes and luxury establishments, Switzerland ranks ninth, while Egypt, thanks to its ancient civilization, pyramids and new Cairo museum, takes tenth place.

 

Europe remains the leading continent

 

Asia emerges this year as the undisputed travel star, with Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, India, and the Philippines attracting visitors with their cuisine, traditions, and lush nature. Add to that exceptional hospitality and a wide variety of destinations to explore.

Europe, true to its reputation, continues to dominate with no fewer than five countries in the Top 10. Italy, Spain, and the Scandinavian countries are also very popular, making the Old Continent a must for travelers.

 

North America remains strong thanks to Canada, Mexico, and the United States, while the Middle East and Africa are gradually emerging. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Mauritius, Tanzania, and Tunisia are all countries increasingly capturing global tourism attention and investment.
