Rio de Janeiro’s legendary Copacabana Palace celebrates its 100th anniversary

Belmond, the luxury hotel company owned by LVMH, is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Copacabana Palace in Rio. The legendary establishment is organizing a series of festivities for the occasion, and will be renovating some of its facilities.

The Copacabana Palace, a Belmond hotel, unveiled on Wednesday an exceptional program of festivities to celebrate its centenary. The end of 2023 will be marked by a series of artistic, cultural and gastronomic events honoring local culture and heritage.

Among these initiatives is a significant partnership with Casa Amarela, an educational, artistic and social center. The visual and photographic works of the center’s partner, French artist JR, centered on the theme of Mother’s Day, are displayed on the hotel’s façade. This philanthropic collaboration will continue to grow, providing long-term support for local communities.

Renovation and celebration

The hotel’s iconic facilities are also undergoing a well-deserved renovation. The famous swimming pool, designed by renowned architect Ivan Rezende, as well as the hotel’s façade, will undergo a meticulous transformation and restoration. Thanks to an innovative lighting system and refurbishment of the building, this project has won the support of organizations dedicated to the preservation of historical heritage, perfectly aligned with Belmond’s values.

The Copacabana Palace will also host a series of exciting events that resonate with its rich historical past. These include a gala dinner followed by a performance by renowned Brazilian singer-songwriter Gilberto Gil. A new team of renowned Brazilian chefs will design menus evoking the era when guests ranged from Brigitte Bardot to Princess Diana.

This experience therefore reflects the Brazilian festive spirit and embodies Belmond’s passion for offering authentic experiences in destinations steeped in history.

Iconic hotel

The Copacabana Palace is one of Copacabana’s most emblematic landmarks. Its walls have witnessed celebrity sojourns, legendary parties and a luxurious lifestyle reserved for the wealthy elite. Although the night can be expensive, that doesn’t stop visitors from going there to capture images of its grandiose façade.
